Whether new to Weld County, just visiting or if you’ve lived here for years, there are many points of interest that help make Weld County unique.
The Ault Pump House
Constructed in 1907, the house was once the town’s first well and has been credited for “changing the agricultural infrastructure of the area,” according to History Colorado.
The Crossing East of Evans
A memorial stands east of the City of Evans at Weld County Roads 52 and 43 in remembrance of 20 school children killed when a train crashed into their school bus in 1961. Learn more about the memorial and the event by reading a past Denver Post article.
Prisoner of War (P.O.W.) Camp 202 in Greeley
From 1944 to 1946, P.O.W. Camp 202 was used to incarcerate 2,000 German soldiers, many of whom worked in sugar beet fields. Learn more about this historic site.
The Pawnee Buttes in Northern Weld County
Located about an hour north of Greeley, the Pawnee Buttes rise about 300 feet high. A 1.5-mile trail leads to the buttes, but those looking to sightsee should be aware of wildlife, including rattlesnakes and nesting raptors. Know that one of the buttes is on private land. To prepare for the best experience, please read the information from the U.S. Forest Service.
Pawnee Pioneer Trails Scenic Byway
The sign welcoming travelers along the Pawnee Pioneer Trails Scenic Byway can be seen driving east on Highway 14 through Ault. What leads to largely vast, open plains was once part of America’s expansion into the west. Read more about the Byway.
