The first proclaimed National Fossil Day and was accepted by Dr. Joe Sertich, Curator of Dinosaurs at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of National Fossil Day; a day designed to bring attention to the scientific and educational value of paleontology  and the importance of preserving fossils for future generations, as described on the National Park Service webpage.

The second proclamation proclaimed the day as "Pops" the Triceratops Day in honor of Weld County's official fossil and the Mapelli family, who donated the fossil to the county for all residents to enjoy!
