Keeping the spirit alive at Larado Whiskey

Where fresh air meets innovation, where community roots run deep, and where pride in who we are and what we do shines through. Introducing the Seeds to Success campaign — a celebration of the people, values, and progress that make northern Colorado truly special.
This week’s featured innovator: Larado Whiskey
Larado Whiskey may be new to Weld County, but the idea has been brewing for over a decade.
A combination of “lasso” and “Colorado,” Larado Whiskey is the brainchild of Hunter Hoshiko, the company’s founder, who is a fourth-generation Weld County resident. Seeking new opportunities, his great-grandfather arrived here from Japan over 130 years ago. After spending some time away for school, Hunter returned and there was never any question about where he wanted to build his business.
For Hunter, the community is everything. Without the people of Weld, his family wouldn’t have had the opportunities that allowed them to thrive. Hunter says, “we create wealth in Weld County - Denver and the metro areas trade it,” but it’s the hardworking people here that truly defines the area. This is a place where agriculture, ranching, and natural resources have been the backbone of the community for generations. It’s a place where neighbors help neighbors, and where hard work is not only recognized, but celebrated.
While Weld County has changed over the years, some things remain the same. The area offers a rare combination of city amenities, rural charm, and the mountain views that our residents love, while also providing opportunities to those not afraid to work hard . Hunter describes it as a place where you can have it all – the best of the city, the country, and the mountains. The only thing missing might be a beach, but with an airport just a short drive away and direct flights all over the world, that’s a small price to pay.
The rural setting provides more than just a picturesque backdrop – it is central to the business’s identity. Without the history and spirit of Weld County, the brand simply wouldn’t exist. A hand-tied lasso is found on every whiskey bottle along with an image of Longs Peak.
The support from the local community has been overwhelming, and it’s a big part of why the business has been able to grow so quickly. The company is just as dedicated to its roots and is committed to supporting its neighbors, including local organizations like: Colorado Youth Outdoors, the Boys and Girls Club of Weld County, the Northern Colorado Cattle Barons Ball, and the Estes Park Rodeo. In just its first year of operation, Larado Whiskey has been able to donate over $100,000 to local charities.
Ultimately, what makes Weld County truly special are the values that everyone shares here. It’s a place that feels like home, no matter where you come from. For Hunter Hoshiko, there’s no place he’d rather have his business than Weld County. It’s a place where history, community, and hard work come together to create something truly special.
